EVANGELIZATION ERA AT HERMOSA LATIN CHURCH

The Pathway to Discipleship is a series of three experiences
intended to help one no matter where they are in their faith journey
to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

 

Discover Christ is for anyone looking to explore life’s biggest questions:

• How did we get here? Is life random or is there a God creator?
• Who is Jesus? A good man or God?
• Why did he die? How does he “save us” and from what does he save us?
• Is Jesus God? If so, what does that mean for my life?
• Who is the Holy Spirit?
• What is the Church?

The 2024 Discover Christ Session concluded in March. OLG will offer the Discover experience again.

Follow Christ is for anyone seeking to place Jesus at the center of their life and longing for a deeper relationship with Jesus. The focus is on prayer life: learning how to pray in various ways, especially through scripture and the Mass.

 

This five-week experience is on Friday nights from 6:30-9:00 PM, and includes a meal, a small group discussion, praise & worship music/prayer time, and teaching. A new teaching is presented weekly to further our practice of personal prayer and understanding of the Mass.

Share Christ focuses on the art of spiritual accompaniment to help you share Jesus more effectively with others, e.g. friends, family, and coworkers. This includes practical experiences such as:
• Recognizing the stages of another’s spiritual journey through compassion listening
• Talking about our own relationship with God
Sharing how we became a disciple of Jesus
• Listen lovingly to the real questions and opinions other have about God in order to guide the discovery of how God is present and active in a person’s life

There is no cost for this experience, however, space is limited. Childcare is offered upon request.

We ask our community to be united in this prayer of evangelization, offering it up to our Lord as we journey together on this discipleship pathway to discover, follow and share Jesus Christ.

PRAYER FOR EVANGELIZATION

ALL:  Heavenly Father,
We Praise You and Thank You,
Because You so loved the world,
that you sent your Only Begotten Son to save us.

Lord Jesus Christ, you called disciples to follow you, and
formed them to share in Your ministry of Salvation.
Form us as your disciples to invite others to Discover You,
to Follow You and to Share in Your Mission of Proclaiming the Gospel.

Holy Spirit, we Praise You.
Come into our hearts to renew us and guide us.
Be with our parish leaders, staff, clergy, and every member of our parish
who is called to bring others to Christ.
Inspire us to reach out to our family members, neighbors, co-workers,
classmates, and friends still searching to encounter
the Love of God in a life changing way.
We pray for them all right now Lord, that they come to know You.

WHAT IS THE EVANGELIZATION ERA AT OLG

PREPARING FOR THE DISCIPLESHIP PATHWAY

In this recorded message Fr. Paul further explains our new Parish vision and plan following the New Evangelization. The New Evangelization recognizes that our faith isn’t first about our practices, rather it’s first about what God has done for us, and religion is a response to that. It’s really all about GOLF; God Offers Love First, and then we respond by serving him and following His teachings.  So passing on the faith, or evangelizing, is praying for and inviting someone to experience the miracle of encountering God’s Love, in response that person will then want to learn more, practice more, follow more, and share more, of their faith.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A DISCIPLE & THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A MISSIONARY DISCIPLE

How could the God who made this vast universe really know each of us by name and have a relationship with each one of us that depends on how we respond? It is mind-boggling and awesome, but it is what Jesus promises and what many have experienced. It is the first step of becoming a disciple, that is to have a life-changing encounter with the risen Lord. In this homily, Fr, Paul continues to lay out the pastoral plan for our parish including the characteristics of a missionary disciple. 

CHARACTERISTICS OF MISSIONARY DISCIPLE

⁃ Guided by the Holy Spirit, seeks to discern and follow God’s will in all things.
⁃ Seeks ongoing conversion and transformation in Christ.
⁃ Is nourished by the sacraments frequently, especially Sunday Eucharist.
⁃ Has a daily prayer routine that includes listening to God, dwelling in God’s presence, and prayer with scripture.
⁃ Studies, knows, and applies Scripture to daily life.
⁃ Practices and can explain basic Catholic beliefs using scripture and tradition.
⁃ Seeks to discern and live their vocation, especially by sharing charisms and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
⁃ Fervently desires [and prays] to expand the Kingdom of God.
⁃ Shares the Gospel message with others, especially the Kerygma.
⁃ Shares their personal faith journey and how Jesus has changed their life.
⁃ Guides others on the path of discipleship, especially by praying with them, and inviting them to events.
⁃ Gets involved with and supports the physical and spiritual needs of others and the parish.
